LAC strives to be a nationally and internationally recognised, industry leading small arts centre that practices radical localism and challenges conceptions about what it means to be ‘rural’. Our Caithness community is at the heart of everything we do and we work across the county acting as a cultural hub for the North of Scotland.
LAC’s main site is situated in a converted Victorian village school surrounded by trees and aged stone walls. The interior has been imaginatively converted to a dynamic multi-purpose arts centre. This includes a fully- equipped 60-seat black-box studio theatre which converts into an exhibition space, back-stage facilities, a public café/bar and purpose-built accommodation for visiting performers and artists. The whole premises is disability accessible. From here, LAC holds an annual programme of the very best music, thetare, film & dance that Scotland has to offer. We also host a multitude of family events across the year, culminating with our annual family Christmas show!
LAC also reaches out into the Caithness community by bringing local groups and clubs together with local artists. Our Caithness Artists in Residence (CAIR) programme matches a local artist with a local club or group to work together for a common goal with some amazing results. We also have a vast programme for our young people including our Caithness Young Creatives and Young Music Makers programmes which gives our young people access to opportunities in the arts that otherwise might not exsist in Caithness.
Keep an eye on our social channels and our website for updates on the programme.
