At this site are two extremely well preserved Lime Kilns. The round lime kiln dates from about 1820 and the other square lime kiln dates to 1870.
Both of the kilns used peat as a fuel and the lime was put to a number of users by the locals. The lime was used to improve the soil of the crofts, to make lime mortar and was also used as a lime wash to whiten the crofters houses.
