Lady Janet's seat is a Folly associated with the nearby Thurso Castle. Lady Janet was daughter of William, Lord Strathnaver of the House of Sutherland. She was married to George Sinclair of Ulbster and gave birth to their son John on 10 May 1754. Sir John's great work the Statistical Account of Scotland was published between 1791 and 1799 and provides an invaluable insight into life in Scotland at the end of the 18th century.
